Christmas Lantern is one of most-awaited and iconic display of the Filipinos during the holiday or Yuletide season here in the Philippines.
Most Filipinos are starting to hang their own “Parol” in the first week of September because that is the start of the Christmas season in the Philippines.
Parol or Christmas lantern is usually a combination of lights (it can be LED or other sources of lights), wood (usually bamboo stick) or steel frame, Japanese paper or capiz shells.
This kind of parol is the simpler one because of the technology we have today, some people are putting different kinds of materials to make it look better.
But no matter how many kinds of parol the Filipinos have today, it is still their symbol of Christmas that gives them hope, joy, and love.
That’s why we can say that Christmas Lantern is art for Filipinos. It is an art not only because of how creative it is made or how complex is the process of making it.
Parol is an art because it is part of them being Filipinos. More importantly, it is part of their culture and history.
