The word “depression” is easily thrown around the internet. Usually used, but not limited to, the youth. But what does it really mean and what’s the essence of knowing it?
Depression is more than just a low mood, it is a serious mental health condition (mental illness) that gives an impact on all aspects of one’s life. It is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.
It is also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems.
This mental disorder is no short-term problem and can last for months.
Symptoms may vary to each person but some similar and common include feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, loss of energy and interest, appetite or weight and sleep changes.
These symptoms may be shallow and can be experienced by everyone, but the stronger and persistent they are, it is more likely for a person to have depression.
Educate yourself on mental illness, especially nowadays that it is becoming more and more common.
