Water is Not the Best Hydrating Drink According to Study

According to some medical experts, humans supposed to drink 8 glasses (or more) of water a day. We have been trained in the past decades that water is the best hydrating drink for us.

However, there’s a new study in Scotland at St. Andrews University that shows other beverages that are more hydrating drink than the water.

In fact, 20% of our daily H2O intake does not come from water but from solid foods.

Therefore, the new study is suggesting that water is not the best hydrating drink for humans.

According to their research, water can be easily drained out into our bodies because it’s just plain and there are no other components.

That’s why when we are drinking water, we will be easily dehydrated when the temperature is high and when we started urinating.

For example, when we are sick and have a high fever, water can’t simply hydrate our warm bodies.

We needed a much stronger beverage that has other hydrating components like electrolytes.

“This study is telling something that we already knew which are Electrolytes. It is a component like sodium and potassium that can provide better hydration compare to other beverages,”

Melissa Majumdar, a registered dietitian, personal trainer, and spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Therefore, if you want to be hydrated for a longer period, the study suggested that you can drink milk (if you don’t have lactose intolerance) instead of water.

Certainly, milk contains sugar lactose, some protein, and some fat which can help slow the emptying of fluid from the stomach and keep hydration happening over a longer period.
