Residents of a small village in India have opted to wear bear suits in order to get rid of annoying monkeys from destroying their crops.
About 2,000 monkeys disturbed the lives of the Sikandarpur villagers for the past few days.
To address the problem, locals dressed up as bears then roam around the village to scare away the monkeys.
The villagers contributed money to buy three bear costumes from a makeup artist worth Rs1,700 each.
In an interview, Village leader Ram Lalit Verma said villagers are taking turns to roam around the village while wearing bear costumes.
Days after the bear scaring commenced, number of monkey attacks has already come down.
Before it implemented, monkeys attacked about 150 children in the village.
Meanwhile, Shahjahanpur sub-divisional forest officer M.N. Singh said there was raid increase of monkey population in the district.
However, the office do have enough funds to increase manpower to protect both the locals and the wild animals.
The forest officer added they can only grant permission to people to catch said animals on their own or through some non-government organizations and they will help them release the monkeys in forest areas.
