Now Twitter is planning to remove inactive accounts from its service next month. This was after receiving feedback that it would be effectively eliminating the posts of people who have died.
Twitter is planning to Delete your account?
Twitter said on a statement on Wednesday,
We’ve heard you on the impact that this would have on the accounts of the deceased.
This was a miss on our part.
The company said it plans to introduce a “new way” for its users to “memorialize” accounts on the service. Prior to that feature, they did not intend to remove inactive accounts.
The company’s update came just a day after Twitter warned users accounts who haven’ logged in for the last sixth months will be removed. The decision pause on that move highlighted struggles on technology because tech companies will have to adjust and manage their platform to deal with the consequences.
A spokesperson said,
We’re working to clean up inactive accounts to present more accurate, credible information people can trust across Twitter.
Part of this effort is encouraging people to actively log in.
It’s still unclear when the accounts will be removed or how many users will be affected. The company said that they are reaching out to many accounts that don’t meet their requirements.
Be sure to be up to date because if you don’t use your account on Twitter probably it might be removed as well.
