On November 27, 2017, North Carolina released an Amber Alert for 3-year-old Mariah Woods. to find the suspect.
Her mom reported her as missing, stating she last saw her child was on the night before she kissed her goodnight on the bed.
The find and rescue operation is successful when the Fayetteville police search and rescue team discovered the remains of Mariah. The body of the girl is in Pender County’s Shelter Creek.
On December 1, the police were able to detain the suspect. The man is a 32-year-old Earl Kimrey which is also the live-in boyfriend of Mariah’s mom.
The office of the Onslow County Sheriff verified that the body discovered in the creek is the missing girl.
A warrant issued by ABC 7 Chicago indicated that Kimrey had removed the body of Mariah Woods from the scene of her murder which concealed her death and body.
Even while knowing that Mariah Woods may have died from unnatural causes.
The suspect acted with dishonesty and intent to murder.” It also indicated that he “intentionally disposed of the deceased body of the kid.”
Kimrey sexually molested Mariah as well as her two siblings according to the report.
Court papers add that somehow the mother of Mariah knew about the violence and drug overuse of Kimrey but failed to act.
Kimrey was prosecuted for the following charges:
Covering up the murder, Obstruction of Justice, Second Degree Theft, Felony Larceny, and possession of the stolen property.
That’s why the court fined him with a $1,010,000 bond at the Onslow County Detention Center.
