Alexis Preston was already 23 years of age when she realizes that her eight-month-old baby, Lexi, would need to grow up without her. The doctors found out that she has stage four breast cancer.
Preston realized she was going to pass away, which is the reason why she did all she could to persuade Heather Salazar, a mother-of-three, to adopt her baby.
With nobody else to go to, the Ohio mother stuck her options on the Salazars to provide her child with a proper home.
It just only for three days before the family responds. “It was meant to be,” Salazar said. “She was intended to be our own.”
After the adoption, Salazar accompanies Preston to her chemotherapy schedules. Unfortunately, she passed away seven days after her 24th birthday celebration.
For the following years, Lexi lived happily with her new family, but Salazar got awful news. She found out that she has breast cancer as well.
We embraced this girl to cherish her,” she said. “Is Lexi going to lose two mothers?”
Luckily, Salazar was able to get treatment in the early period of her cancer.
After her treatment, she discovers Pink Ribbon Girls, an association which the main goal is to help around ladies with breast cancer. Lexi became one of the volunteers.
Watch the story of the family in the video below.
It’s sad that Lexi will never have a chance to talk to her real mother. However, we are certain that Preston would be glad to know she’s joining the battle against breast cancer with Salazar, a bold survivor.
