Screen time for toddlers, not a good sign

The use of screen time explodes below three years in the US. Also, most Canadian preschoolers are not meeting World Health Organization recommendations for the appropriate use of television and other gadgets. This is according to two new studies published Monday in JAMA Pediatrics.

Their screen habits

Nearly 4,000 mothers from New York were asked about the level of screen use their children at 1 to 3 years of age. Those answers were then compared to the result of similar questions when the children were already 7 or 8 years.

You see children of first-time mothers and children who were home-based children have the highest amount of screen time. This is by elementary, the study found.

Senior author Edwina Yeung, an investigator at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, in a statement said,

Our results indicate that screen habits begin early.

Yeung continued saying,

This finding suggests that interventions to reduce screen time could have a better chance of success if introduced early.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says no baby under 18 months should be exposed to a screen except for face-to-face family interactions. An hour of screen time is enough for children below the age of 5.
