Alzheimer’s Disease is a condition of a person that most people don’t understand.
Some people think that it is not that serious because they are just forgetting things. However, there’s a deeper truth behind that disease.
There’s a young woman who was obliged to experience the painful reality of the disease when she was just 22 years old.
Her 54-year-old mother was detected with Alzheimer’s disease and she’s been living with her in the past 12 years.
The young woman can’t fully describe in words the things that her mother is experiencing. That’s why she just explains it one powerful visual illustration that enables her to say what she wants.
“I’ve often described observing my mom surrender to this disease as looking her unravel,” she wrote.
“When I came across the crocheting, she did in the initial stages of Alzheimer’s, it made me comprehend how suitable that actually was.”
“I don’t recall precisely when she stopped being able to crochet for good–she made squares for a while, then the circles, then the little pieces of crochet,
until she got to the point where she just carried around the needles and yarn in her purse,” she added.
“At this point, she is totally non-verbal and unable to care for herself in any way (eating, bathing, dressing, etc.).”
The saddening picture that she shared on Reddit was able to inspire others to share their own worries and stories about the disease.
It is so difficult for a child to see a parent gradually deteriorate and not even recognize their children.
