This one place on Earth that life no can exist. Life exists even in the extremest places on Earth. From deserts and frozen tundras to thermal, toxic vents in the deepest ocean floor, but not this place.
Scientists discovered a place in Ethiopia where life won’t exist in any way. This is according to a new study.
This is that one and only place on Earth
In contrast to previous research, scientists conducted multiple tests and found that even microorganisms can’t thrive here in Dallol. This is one of Earth’s most extreme environments, Dallol is extremely hot, salty and acidic. Its ponds extend to a volcanic crater, located in the Ethiopian Danakil depression. It is filled with salt, toxic gases and boiling water in response to extreme hydrothermal activity.
Even winter, at daytime temperatures, can exceed 113 degrees Fahrenheit. Some of the acidic and saline pools have negative pH values. The findings published Friday in the journal Nature Ecology & Evolution.
The ponds actually prevent life from forming because they contain chemical barriers like chaotropic magnesium salts that help break down hydrogen. Combine it with the salty, acidic and hot environment, truly no life would ever exist here.
Furthermore, the researchers will continue to study the pools to determine more about the limits of life.
