As lockdowns across the globe require only one person in the household to buy essentials, a mother in India tasked his son to buy groceries.
The mother was shocked when he returned home with a bride.
According to a police statement, the mother was shocked by her son’s sudden and secret wedding. She denied him entry into the house when he brought along his bride.
The mother filed a complaint at a police station in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The teary-eyed mother told the police: “I had sent my son to do the grocery shopping today.”
“But when he returned, he came back with a wife. I am not ready to accept this marriage,” she added.
Her son Guddu, 26, said that he married his wife, Savita, two months ago at Arya Samaj Temple in Haridwar.
However, the couple is yet to receive their marriage certificate due to lack of witnesses.
“I had decided to visit Haridwar again for my marriage certificate but could not do so as the lockdown was imposed,” he said during an interview.
The priest who solemnized their wedding said they could get the certificate once the lockdown is lifted.
During the lockdown, he said his bride stayed at a rented accommodation in Delhi. Later on, the son decided to bring his new wife to his house to finally introduce her to her mother.
Meanwhile, the police asked Savita’s landlord to let her stay at the rented place until the lockdown restrictions have been lifted.
