In just the 2nd Day of the 2019 NBA Season, a series of monster stats erupted across the league.
Kyrie Drops 50, KAT rounds 36, 14
Playing for the first time as a Brooklyn Net, superstar guard Kyrie Irving dropped 50 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, and unfortunately for the Nets, the Wolves got the better of the game winning 127-126 in overtime. In the same match, Wolves Center Karl-Anthony Towns dropped a massive double-double of 36 points and 14 rebounds.
Siakam’s 34 and 18, and $130 Million
Over in Toronto, the reigning Most Improved Player of the Year, Pascal Siakam dropped 34 points and 18 rebounds. Apparently, fresh from receiving a whopping $130 Million, 4 year max contract, Siakam went straight to work. Likewise, Raptor guard Fred VanVleet also dropped 34 points. Notably, the two previously second fiddlers combined to score 68 points to eventually drop the hapless New Orleans Pelicans. Subsequently, the Pelicans played without the Number One Draft Pick Zion Williamson who’s currently nursing an injury. Ex-Laker Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with 22 points, accordingly.
Knicks Big 3?
Despite having 3 players scoring more than 20 points apiece, the New York Knicks lost to the LaMarcus Aldridge-led San Antonio Spurs. Unfortunately, the sweet shooting plays of Julius Randle, Marcus Morris, and rookie RJ Barrett weren’t enough to dismantle the decades-long play of the Spurs. Morris led the Knicks with 26 points, with Julius Randle scoring 25. However, the highlight of the game was rookie RJ Barrett’s first NBA game. Barrett dropped 21.
Monster Stats versus Team Plays
Over to the west coast, playing for the Trail Blazers for the first time, Hassan Whiteside garnered a massive double-double performance of 16 points, and 19 rebounds in just 26 minutes of play. Accordingly, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum further dismantled the interior of the helpless Denver Nuggets. However, the Nuggets won the game despite the monster stats put up by the Blazers. Led by Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, the Nuggets won 108-100.
