New York clarified the eerie flash of blue light seen in the night sky over New York City appeared to be a transformer explosion.

In a news conference, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said a utility equipment failure caused an eerie flash of blue light in the sky over New York City. This incident caused power outages and grounded some flights at LaGuardia Airport.

Meanwhile, the New York Police Department on Twitter also clarified the case. No fire, injuries, and even no extraterrestrial activities happened during the night of the incident. The tweet has 4,600 likes and 2,300 retweets.

During the incident, residents posted the eerie photos and joked about it as the beginning of alien invasion.

Governor Cuomo said the electric failure in Queens was more “dramatic than destructive.”

Nevertheless, he assured locals he will request the Public Service Commission to coordinate with Consolidated Edison, Inc. (Con Ed) to ensure that the incident will not happen again.
