Lakers roster deepens with Dwight Howard

The Los Angeles Lakers have offered a non-guaranteed 1-year Contract to former All-Star Dwight Howard. This after Lakers’ Center Demarcus Cousins succumbed to an ACL injury in practice last week.

Dwight Howard provides a strong inside presence in the paint with his 6’11, 280 lbs build. Considered a player beyond his prime years, his presence may still cause teams to think twice before attacking the paint. Anthony Davis, Power Forward for the Lakers, welcomed this development as he will have support to start the 2019-2020 season.

The signing of Dwight Howard comes after Demarcus Cousins fell during a team practice in California earlier this month. Widely expected to man the paint for the Lakers this season, Cousin’s series of injuries have cost the Lakers a void in the paint. It became imperative for the Lakers to sign another Center as they only had one in the roster – JaVale McGee.

Dwight Howard owns career statistics of 17.4 Points per game, and 12.6 Rebounds per game across 15 Seasons. He played for the Orlando Magic for 8 seasons, from 2004-2012, before teaming up with Kobe Bryant in the Lakers. This super team proved to be shorthanded as they were eliminated in the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs. He had numerous 1 and 2-year stints across multiple teams from 2012 to 2019. Thus, Dwight Howard dons the Purple and Gold for the 2nd time in his career. And this time, he hopes that he can finally set his feet down and continue what used to be a very budding career.

Dwight Howard joins a perennial powerhouse team which includes LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma, and Rajon Rondo.

With his addition, the Lakers are expected to win the 2020 NBA Championship.
