A 70-year-old Hindu priest decapitated a man as a sacrifice to end the pandemic.
Authorities reported Sansari Ojha from the Brahmani Devi Temple cut off the head of a man named Saroj Kumar Pradhan, 52, after getting drunk and smoking marijuana.
He beheaded the victim at 1 A.M. in front of the temple’s shrine. He claimed a goddess ordered him in his dream to sacrifice a human to bring end to the ongoing pandemic across the globe.
To finally appease the goddess, he actually decapitated a man. Prior to the crime, both men were smoking marijuana.
Locals from Bandhahuda told police that the suspect and the victim have a long-standing dispute over a mango orchard in the village.
Mr. Pradhan had access to Brahmani Devi temple despite the site’s closure due to pandemic as he was the one who tended the trees in it. The priest and the victim also shared a room in the temple.
The body of the victim was already sent for autopsy. The murder weapon has also been seized by the police.
In an interview, social activist Satya Prakash was disappointed that people still follow barbaric beliefs in the 21st century. “We demand strong action against the guilty,” she clamored.
