Fat shaming is not good in any way. However, the fashion industry seems to have it on lock.
There is one instance in Forever 21 that their customers have reported that they’ve received samples of Atkins’ new line of lemon bars with their plus-sized clothing orders.
Many customers feel that the fashion retailer is trying to tell them that they need to lose weight. Look at the following posts of some of the frustrated customers on Twitter.
Therefore, Forever 21 responded to the feedbacks of their customers. They said they aren’t trying to target people who ordered plus-sized clothes. Everyone got the Atkins bar samples.
They also said that they are not trying to tell people to lose some weight. The retailer has apologized for including the bar in their shipments.
“From time to time, Forever 21 surprises their customers with free test products from the third parties in their e-commerce orders.
The freebie items in question were included in all online orders, across all sizes and categories, for a limited time and have since been removed,”
“This was an oversight on our part and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused to our customers, as this was not our intention in any way.”Forever 21 said in a statement in Buzzfeed News
Even if this is just an honest mistake, the damage has been done. People won’t forget the incident easily. That’s why Forever 21 or other companies should think harder on what to include regarding some samplers to be given to their customers.
Other fashion retailers should learn from the mistake of Forever 21. Share this article to raise awareness of fat-shaming.
