At 28, Ed Sheeran probably has a lot left in his musical arsenal that he could offer the world. However, during a gig in Ipswich, England, he announced that he plans to go on an “18-month” break.
Citing various reasons, Sheeran centers in on the fatigue of touring as the main reason. Apparently, the singer has been in on his Divide tour since 2017. In addition, it’s reported that he plans to start a family with his wife, Cherry Seaborn. Notably, Ed Sheeran’s announcement happened on the last leg of the tour in his hometown. On stage, he mentions that
“This is a Framlingham Town football shirt. I am from Framlingham. Suffolk is my home. I am so happy to be ending this mammoth tour here.”. Ipswich and Framlingham are both in Suffolk where Ed Sheeran grew up.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the projected earnings from the Divide tour could go as high as $800 million. Assuming that the number is achieved, the songwriter would topple U2’s current record of $735 million. As of this writing, no earnings report has been shared.
In essence, the Divide tour becomes one of the largest and most historic concert tours ever held. Particularly, the tour lasted for almost 2 years with 260 shows across 46 counties.
Sheeran first rose to stardom in 2011. Since then, he has gone on to sell out tickets in Madison Square Garden and Wembley Arena. In addition, he has won the Grammys four times and has released 4 albums since 2011. He’s currently worth $300 million.
