A diver in California scoured a river to search for a ring worth $17,000, according to a report.
Mike Pelley or Merman Mike is a certified diver and hunts treasures underwater for a living.
In a request from a Sacramento resident named Bill Fitty last month, Merman Mike was asked to find the ring of his customer’s late brother after he accidentally dropped it at a dock. The ring was worth around $17,000.
According to an article, Pelley said he had trouble finding the ring at first because everything looked like sand underwater.
Meanwhile, Mr. Fitty accompanied the diver to the Sacramento River but decided to go home later as the mission became impossible.
Merman Mike dropped a rock and made a line between it and the boat’s anchor serving as a marker for his search.
Before he knew it, his metal detector started blaring, and he found the ring.
Mr. Fitty was both surprised and happy, the diver shared.
“He grabbed his girlfriend, hugged her,” the diver said. “He was like, ‘I’m coming down right now. Oh my God, I can’t believe you got it.'”
Merman Mike got $1,500 as his reward for scouring the Sacramento River. He used the money to buy a new metal detector that he will use to find more missing possessions underwater.
