According to new research, China’s campaign of clean air policies saved hundreds of thousands of lives in 2017 alone.
Fine particle pollution declined fast as the implementation of new rules on industrial emissions and the promotions of clean fuels. According to the study, published on Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS).
The study focused on the period from 2013-2017. This was conducted by a group of Chinese researchers and scientists.
PM2.5 particulate matter is a known kind of pollution. This is so small that is can enter the body, and potentially lead to cancer, stroke, and heart attack in the long term.
After fast and blistering industrialization and weak regulations left the country with smog and bad air quality. Chinese started to take things seriously in 2018.

With the pollution levels 10% lower across Chinese cities between 2017 and 2018, according to a report by Greenpeace and AirVisual. The action left Beijing to fall out of the top 100 most polluted cities in Asia.
