An Indian living for 30 years as a woman finds out she is actually genetically a man, according to a report.
The Birbhmum resident complained of a severe lower abdomen for months. Later on, she visited Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Cancer Hospital, only to find out her “true identity.”
Dr. Anupam Dutta, the attending clinical oncologist, said the resident’s features resemble a woman’s attributes.
After test reports suggested that the person has a “blind vagina,” doctors decided to conduct a Karyotyping test, revealing her chromosome complement was “XY” and not “XX.”
Further, she has not had a uterus and ovaries since birth. She also has not experienced menstruation.
“We conducted clinical examinations, after she complained of abdominal pain, and found out she has testicles inside her body,” the doctor said.
The Indian resident discovered that she was a ‘man’ suffering from testicular cancer, also called seminoma.
The patient is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
Meanwhile, the patient is married to her husband for a decade and learned they were trying to have babies but failed a number of times.
The doctors said they are conducting counselling with the patient and her husband. They also advised them to continue living life as they have been.
Her 28-year-old sister and her two aunts also have Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. It is a condition a person is born genetically male, but has all physical traits of a woman.
