A few of the most popular programs include:
Living Big With Big Cats. If it is your first time volunteering in South Africa, then this is the program for you! Located on a quiet sanctuary in beautiful South Africa, this program is perfect for any animal lover. Volunteers will assist with the care and maintenance of the many rescued and injured animals including elephants, lions, tigers, cheetahs, spotted hyena, white lion and many more. In addition to caring for the animals, volunteers will assist with farm maintenance.
Living With Orphaned Rhinos. Volunteers are responsible for hand rearing and rehabilitating baby orphaned rhinos. Volunteers will get a chance to help with rehabilitation work including feeding, treatment and care for the rhinos. Volunteers will also help with the other animals at the center including giraffe, wildebeest, waterbuck, kudu and others.
Living with Big Cats – Wild Edition. An ideal conservation program for anyone who is looking for an authentic African experience. Live on a game reserve that boasts thousands of wild animals, including all of the Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. Volunteers work side by side certified FGASA game rangers to track animals and complete data collection to monitor and ensure animal conservation on a 25,000ga game reserve.
Other programs offered by VSA include Living with Cheetahs and Living with Sea Turtles or if working with children is more of what you are interested in they have a Heart of Orphans program based out of Cape Town. They have also partnered with Drifters Tours in order to better cater to travelers who wish to combine a volunteer program with a cross country tour.
