Michelle Obama’s Newest Initiative Is One All Of Us Can Support!

Michelle Obama has been one of the most active First Ladies in recent memory, if not ever.

Her Latest Initiative tackles the issue of under-educated girls/women across the world, and it’s something every one of us should get behind.

Mrs. Obama, or #FLOTUS as she’s occasionally hashtagged on Twitter, provided a per-recorded speech at the Global Citizen festival in New York’s to announce her new endeavor to get more girls across the globe into schools.

According to statistics, there are over 62 millions girls that are unable to attend schools for various reasons that range from neglect to down right criminal to most of our eyes.

Mrs. Obama said in her speech on Saturday that she is able to empathize because she herself experienced this struggle as a child, and that she can “see her daughters” in those girls that struggle.

While the reasons range from neglect, to inability to outright gender based discrimination against women – there can be no argument about the fact that no girl should be without an education that equals or even exceeds that of boys her age.

There have been countless cases of girl overcoming great obstacles to achieve great success, from Mrs. Obama herself, to businesswomen like Yahoo Chairwoman Marissa Mayer, actresses like Kerry Washington or civil (and women) rights activists (and Nobel prize winner) like Malala Yousafzai.

The one thing they all have in common? they all fought for their education, be it to get more of it, to have a better one, or for the simple right of getting it.

Regardless of where you stand on the political map and your like (or dislike) of what Mrs. Obama’s husband has done, we truly believe that everyone can, and should get behind this important initiative.
